from heart to home...
artisan tastes
• Monastero Trappiste Fruit Jams.....
These confetture ( jams ) are hand-made by a group of
nuns living in a monastery north of Rome. Until recently, these
jams had been made by the nuns for their exclusive use. These
jams are thick and sweet, and very pure in flavor. Choose from:
Apricot, Sour Cherry, Quince, Raspberry, or savory Green
Tomato.
• Fragrant artisan Italian Honey...
Giuseppe Coniglio produces traditional honeys
gathered from the profusion of blossoms in the Sicilian
countryside. Excellent for tea or toast, try drizzling these
honeys over thinly sliced pieces of pecorino, firm sheep’s milk
cheese or a plateful of soft, fresh goat cheese. We have:
Lemon or Honeysuckle honey, and an 8 jar
mini-sampler filled with Giuseppe’s honeys, nicely packaged
in a wooden box.
Paolo Pescia is a second-generation artisan honey-maker.
In a nomadic lifestyle, he transports his bees up and down the
national parks along the coast of Tuscany, catching the
appearance of fragrant blossoms. Choose from sweet, perfumed
Wild Heather or potent, dark Chestnut honey.
The authentic
Peppermint pig
About 1880, a German confectioner in Saratoga Springs, NY started a
cherished American Victorian-era holiday tradition. In his
native Germany, marzipan candy pigs are given to friends and
loved ones as a token of good wishes, health and prosperity for
the coming year. Here, that tradition resulted in the Peppermint
Pig - a hard, peppermint candy pig that comes packaged with a
red velvet pouch and a little silver hammer for, well, bashing
it to bits. Here is the traditional ritual. After family dinner
on Christmas Day, gather everyone around the table and have each
person remember something good that happened in the past year.
Then they take a whack at the pig. The pig passes around the
table as each person takes a turn, and by the time everyone is
finished, the peppermint candy shards are ready to be enjoyed by
all.
Great family fun ......Tiny Tim would have loved it.
