The authentic
       Peppermint pig

About 1880, a German confectioner in Saratoga Springs, NY started a cherished American Victorian-era holiday tradition. In his native Germany, marzipan candy pigs are given to friends and loved ones as a token of good wishes, health and prosperity for the coming year. Here, that tradition resulted in the Peppermint Pig - a hard, peppermint candy pig that comes packaged with a red velvet pouch and a little silver hammer for, well, bashing it to bits. Here is the traditional ritual. After family dinner on Christmas Day, gather everyone around the table and have each person remember something good that happened in the past year. Then they take a whack at the pig. The pig passes around the table as each person takes a turn, and by the time everyone is finished, the peppermint candy shards are ready to be enjoyed by all.
Great family fun ......Tiny Tim would have loved it.
