HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US

Unbelievable as it seems, this August begins our 30th year in business right here in little ole ‘Hamp. Who would have ever guessed? Just as ‘Hamp has evolved into Northampton, our store now reaches a wider, more distant audience through our web site. Our travels to China to source tea is a thrill beyond measure, and our connections with artisan food producers around the world make us proud to support their efforts. To celebrate this feat of business ( and marriage ) we are planning to fight back against the devaluation of the dollar in Europe and offer some of our best-selling items at special prices throughout the fall. Take advantage of these deals to stock up for yourself and for holiday gifts.

And, keep your eyes open for in-store specials  throughout the year.

Williamson & Magor  teas...

Chilman’s Authentic Indian Spice Blends....are your secret ingredient for fine, authentic Indian spicing that is quick and easy. Select from:Bombay Potatoes, Chicken Biryiani, Chicken Korma, Cauliflower & Spinach Bahji.

Vignalta herbed sea salt from Italy...Northern Italian cooks are known for using flavorful, all natural ingredients, especially wild- grown herbs such as rosemary and sage. Vignalta herbed salt is unique, as it is made from Sicilian sea salt infused with fresh herbs grown in the Veneto that have been soaked in olive oil. This very aromatic salt is a household tradition in Venice and the Veneto, and is a perfect match when grilling or roasting pork, lamb, chicken and salmon. It adds flavor without being intrusive or overpowering.

RIEDEL WINE GLASSES

This Austrian company captured the attention of the wine drinking world several years ago with their distinguished and hedonistic ( and costly ) collection of beautiful wine glasses called Sommeliers. More recently, Riedel has added a line of non-lead, machine-blown wine glasses called Overture that feature an elegant look and feel but are priced for popular use.  Come and have a look - we have selected what we think are the most useful glasses. And, for those who like to dress up their table with a nicely designed wine decanter, we have two Riedel selections.

Chocolate AMERICAN STYLE...

Specialty Sugar from Mauritius.....
Known to Arabs since the10th century, the island of Mauritius was first settled by the Dutch in 1598. The sugar industry was established by the French, who colonized the island in1715. Ceded to Great Britain in1814, Mauritius gained independence in1968. Today, 90% of the cultivated land grows sugar cane. Choose from these distinctive crystallizations: Demerara sugar, Fondant & Icing sugar, Light Muscovado sugar, Dark Muscovado sugar and Superfine Caster sugar.

Brining salts....
for those looking to ‘brine’ or ‘deep fry’ this year’s Thanksgiving turkey, this is what you need ( we have directions and recipes.) Or for less lofty plans, use these very flavorful and tasty mixtures of salt and spices for brining meats ( think thick pork chops ) and pieces of fish of any size. Just add the brining salt mixture to water in a large pot and let the ‘brine’ penetrate and flavor the meat for delicious results. Try some for your next grill party -they are good and so easy !

 more, new......artisan chocolate

The buzz is about richer, deeper, darker chocolate bars from small artisan chocolatiers in the USA and Europe. These producers coax a symphony of flavors from signature blends of the finest cacao beans from Central and South America, Africa and the Caribbean, resulting in complex and sophisticated flavors.
