A modern tea
from Guangdong, Ying Hong # 9 tea bush is a cultivar
that is the result of breeding the local Guangdong Da
Ye tea bush with the sturdy Yunnan big leaf tea bush
cultivar ( Camellia sinensis assamica). During the
19th century Guangdong black teas were exported to the
West, but today little of this tea is found outside of
China. Production of Ying De #9 specifically is very
limited.
This is a superb tea for drinking plain and for those
looking for teas that are smooth and non-astringent.
As with many Chinese black teas, Ying De #9 produces
good flavor over several steepings. Drink this young
tea now or age it for a year to mature the flavors and
develop increased richness.
Use 1 heaping Tablespoon per 6
oz of water
Steep 1 infusion at 3 - 5 minutes.
Water temperature should be 195˚ - 205˚ F |
