The shading
of tea bushes in parts of Japan has a long tradition.
On Kyushu Island, the southernmost region of Japan,
the Kagoshima area is famous for tea made from the
Sakurajima sub-variety of tea bushes. Here, tea bushes
flourish in the warm weather, and many are covered
with special nets (kabusé) during the growing season.
This allows half of the usual sunlight to pass through
to the plants.
Growing tea in half- shaded conditions comes very
close to the natural light conditions of wild-growing
tea plants in the forest. Shading the tea bushes
allows them to develop more active substances along
with a distinctive fresh and highly aromatic aroma.
Our Soshun Kabuségreen tea powder is
manufactured by KEIKO, and the tea is grown
exclusively in their tea gardens in Kagoshima without
chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Sophisticated
production techniques combined with careful
cultivation and leaf plucking guarantees green teas of
exquisite taste and enjoyment.
Our Soshun Kabuségreen tea powder is the highest grade
tea powder produced by Keiko. It has a multi-layered
taste and sweet bouquet, and is brilliantly
luminescent green in the cup. This tea powder can be
described as beguiling, velvety in flavor, and
harmonious in nature without a hint of bitterness.
The difference between green tea powder and Matcha is
very little or a lot, depending on your needs and your
expectation. Matcha is milled from shade-covered leaf
that is manufactured into tencha, the
de-veined leaf that is ground in a stone mill to yield
finely-powdered matcha. Green tea powder is ground
from tea leaves that have the veins intact, and a
different type of mill is used for grinding.
For most tea enthusiasts, green tea powder is a less
expensive alternative to Matcha. Our Soshun
Kabuségreen tea powder is delicious, and most suitable
for culinary uses, everyday green tea drinking, and
practice Chanoyu sessions.
