Bai Hao Oolong tea is often
referred to as ‘Oriental Beauty’ or Formosa White Tip Oolong. From Miaoli
County, one of the premiere Oolong-growing regions of Taiwan, it is the
finest of the open-leaf Taiwan Oolongs.
Open-leaf style Oolong teas such as 'Oriental beauty' are among the most
demanding teas to manufacture. Skilled tea artisans must confidently but
patiently assess the progress of the oxidation of the large,
moisture-laden leaf used, and change steps at precisely the right time.
Oriental Beauty is never folded or ball-rolled, rather the leaf is
manipulated into a gentle curved twist, with plenty of tip showing.
Additionally there is a considerable amount of white tip that blends into
the curled leaves, creating an 'Oriental Beauty'. Exhibiting the classic
'stone-fruit' aromatic, Oriental Beauty is clean, clear, mouth-filling,
slightly astringent and generally utterly delicious.
Grown in the mountains just south of Taipei City, Bai Hao is one of the
several most-highly-regarded Oolong teas, demanding a premium price and
high demand worldwide.
Oolong teas are brewed numerous times. Water should be cooler than that
for Black tea, and hotter than that for Green tea. It is not unusual to
steep a fine open leaf Oolong tea 4-7 times. Each steeping will offer a different
flavor profile.
Steep 4-7 infusions at 30-90
seconds each
or 1-3 infusions at 2-3 minutes each.
Water temperature should be 180˚ - 190˚ F |
