Formosa Fancy Oolong tea represents the
ultimate in the Oolongs manufactured in the traditional Formosa style.
With its clean, clear taste and smooth style, it has all the finesse that
one could want in an Oolong tea.
Traditional-style Formosa Oolongs have the stone-fruit flavor and aroma
that make for an excellent cup of sipping tea, and uncomplicated ones can
be drunk with food, especially slightly savory to considerably sweet
snacks. The quality of Formosa Oolongs available ranges from very high to
plainly drinkable, with the vast majority of them being simple and
unassuming. When a Traditional-style Formosa Oolong tea is stupendous, it
is worth seeking out and savoring. This is such a tea…if there were only a
half-dozen teas left in the world this would have to be one of them.
We typically inventory two selections in the traditional Formosa style,
one is a simple, inexpensive choice, and the other is this, the Formosa
Fancy Oolong. This tea represents the tea artisan’s stunning success of
partial oxidation: it is so difficult to coax tea into this style.
The level of oxidation attained in this Formosa Fancy Oolong tea is very
difficult to direct, but our tea growers have done it again; this is a
fantastic Fancy Oolong.
Formosa Fancy Oolong tea can be brewed several times, but not the multiple
times that the Fujian-style Oolongs should be steeped. Serve in small cups
with a light-colored, clear interior; this tea brews with an unbelievable
aroma and clean taste.
When you have experimented with this great tea, try some of the Tung Ting
Oolong, (also known as Dong Ding Oolong) the incredible, Fujian-style
Formosa Oolong with its unbelievable, but very different flavor profile.
Steep 2-5 infusions at 30-90
seconds each
or 1-3 infusions at 2-3 minutes each.
Water temperature should be 180˚ - 195˚ F |
