Treasure of Anxi Oolong tea is a
particularly unusual tea from Anxi, one of the premiere Oolong-growing
regions of Fujian Province.
This tea is wonderfully unique to this specific region of eastern China.
The bushes that yield this fine leaf grow at a relatively high altitude of
3,000 feet. Leaves from China bush of this height have a clarity of style
that is distinctive. The special flavor that turns this superb Oolong tea
into Treasure of Anxi Oolong tea is the extraordinary step of hand-shaping
the tea into small ‘balls’ while being dusted with Lingzhi, a well-known
fungus that has a licorice-like flavor. The eventual shape of Treasure of
Anxi Oolong tea replicates the look of pebbles in a clear mountain spring.
There are few combinations in the tea world so exquisitely matched as are
those of tea and Lingzhi. The initial flavor is somewhat intense; similar
to both ginseng and licorice, then it matures and mellows into a finish
that lingers long on the palate. The long finish is particularly
appropriate, as Lingzhi is consumed in China classically as a potential
source of longevity.
Steep 2-5 infusions at 30-90
seconds each
or 1-3 infusions at 2-3 minutes each.
Water temperature should be 180˚ - 195˚ F |
