Koshin uses a clay soaked cloth to ‘slap’ wet clay on the surface of the dried but un-fired teapots. This creates the appearance of ‘bark’ on the surface of this charming teapot. He also scratches the surface in a circular fashion just enough to bring up occasional slashe of red, which creates a pleasing visual rhythm.
