Artist: Houryu
Strainer-style:
Clay sasame
Packaging: Cardboard box
This stylish teapot
is similar to the one pictured on our first tea book,
The Story of Tea.
After many years, and dozens of that teapot sold, it sadly
went out of production. So we were thrilled to discover
this year a similar teapot from the potter Houryu. This
teapot is shorter and plumper than our previous teapot,
and is very fine in its detail and craftsmanship. It
features the very recognizable Tokoname color scheme of
darkest-black and vibrant red, and
smooth-as-glass-surfaces. It displays a nice, double-wide
band of large, confident, faceted cuts, and it features a
very comfortably placed handle that gives the teapot a
well-balanced, graceful feeling in the hand.
