Artist: Yoshiki
Strainer-style: Clay ball-strainer
Packaging: Paulownia wood box, artist signed and tied with
signature ribbon
For this stunning
teapot master craftsman Yoshiki creates a rhythmic,
hand-hammered effect over the teapot, including the lid,
knob and handle. This technique is known as tataki
or ‘knocking on the surface of the clay,’ and it is one of
Yashiki’s trademark effects. He fires the teapot using
oxidation and reduction steps to create the areas of
swirling black flashing on the teapot. These colors are
created by the placement of his teapots in relation to the
heat inside of his kiln, and the combination of red and
black is powerful yet understated.
