Mengding Mountain Snow Buds

This
mountain on the Tibetan Plateau in NW Sichuan Province
is likely the birthplace of tea.
Mengding Mountain is northwest of Mt Emei, one of the
4 sacred mountains in Chinese Buddhism.
A beautiful mist-enshrouded atmosphere greeted us when
we visited there in March 2004.
Drinking local tea with the monks who are restoring
the temple on this mountain was a thrill, but
Mengding Mountain Snow Buds tea tastes just as good in
any home, at any time.
This tea is a true ‘budset tea’, and is professionally
known as a fat, sword- leaf style tea
(sometimes called ‘sparrow-tongue’), a reference to
its distinctive shape.
Mengding Mountain Snow Buds tea is picked as a budset
in the garden and gathered in small fabric bags,
rather than the more usual basket. Two people picking
for one full day will gather only one kilo of fresh
budset tea.
Slightly toasty, this elegant tea needs several
infusions to really show off its deep-rooted flavor
profile.
Classically categorized as a "yellow" tea, Mengding
Mountain Snow Buds tea is the most cherished of the
teas generally known as "Sichuan snow buds".
Steep 2-3
infusions at 2 minutes each.
Water temperature should be 160˚ - 170˚ F |
